A number of weather watches and warnings have been issued for central and southern Alberta ahead of another winter storm. Environment Canada issued a winter storm watch for Calgary Tuesday afternoon, warning “a long period of widespread snowfall, with total amounts of 25 to 35 centimetres is possible Wednesday evening into Friday.” The national weather agency said snow is expected to move into central Alberta first, before it tracks south toward the U.S. border.

Taliban fighters, whom US-led forces spent billions of dollars trying to defeat, are now openly active in 70% of Afghanistan. Months of research across the country shows that the Taliban now control or threaten much more territory than when foreign combat troops left in 2014. The Afghan government played down the report, saying it controls most areas. But recent attacks claimed by Taliban and Islamic State group militants have killed scores in Kabul and elsewhere. Afghan officials and US President Donald Trump have responded by ruling out any talks with the Taliban. Last year Mr Trump announced the US military would stay in the country indefinitely. The BBC research also suggests that IS is more active in Afghanistan than ever before, although it remains far less powerful than the Taliban.

Although the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was comfortable training JF-17 aircrews using simulators, potential third-party customers had requested a twin-seat variant for training and evaluation purposes. Production of the first JF-17B prototype began in April 2016, with the aircraft conducting its first flight a year later. Three JF-17B prototypes are under production, two of which will join the PAF. In addition to a tandem seat, the JF-17B incorporates several design changes to its single-seat counterpart.
